Many chainsaw buyers decide to buy the Husqvarna 440E model which is a 16-Inch chainsaw, powered by a 40.9cc 2-Stroke X-Torq Gas Powered engine.
It costs around the $300 price point, and plenty of buyers rate this particular model at a solid 4.4 out of 5 stars. All things considered that is a very good rating, that has remained consistent over a long period of time.
This one is considered a medium strength saw, when compared to other chainsaws, of a similar price and type. It would be considered to be at the higher end of saws used by home owners. The reviews tell us clearly that this is a “cut above” your normal household chainsaw.

Short Video Review of the Husqvarna 440E
Below you can have a look at a good video that shows the Husqvarna 440E being opened right out of the box. As you can see from the video, this is a nice looking saw.
As you can see from the demonstration, closer to the end of the video, it saws through wood with some considerable ease.It is worth mentioning that the fuel consumption on this is lower than similar models, thanks to the technology. It also has low emissions, so ticks the box for any of us who care about the environment.
Short Review Summary
16″ Gas Powered Chainsaw
Average Retail Price:
The initial feel is that this saw has been very well made, and I would expect as much from a brand such as Husqvarna. They do make good products and they do have a good reputation.
What Can the Husqvarna 440E be Used for?
If you need a chainsaw simply to do some light work, then this model will do that with some considerable ease. If you need it for light work such as tree pruning or getting rid of light growth, then this one will certainly do the trick. For heavier growth it will also get through this with ease.
That is because it is powerful, yet light enough to be able to manoeuvre with some ease. It is also light in weight and very portable. It has been well designed and I think it is really nice to handle. It has a slim body, when compared to others, and the flat underside of this model gives it a really nice balance in the hand.
It is also good for limbing and general log cutting. One thing that many buyers also comment on is the low vibration from the motor. It can however also easily handle logs and heavier cuts.
Review of Features That Buyers Really Liked
Easy Start – If you have ever owned any product that requires a pull start, then there is nothing more frustrating than it not starting. You will not have this problem with this model. Almost every buyer stated that in their reviews. Even in cold weather this model starts with some considerable ease.
It is also worth mentioning that the actual pull cord on this model is pretty easy to grasp and pull. The manufacturers have changed the mechanism to make this easier to pull, so you no longer need the muscles of a weight lifter.
Fuel Efficient – With one fill of the tank, you can get about 2 hours of cutting. That would be considered to be better than the average.
Toolless Tensioner – Although many people don’t consider this a key feature when buying, I think that you should. Being able to quickly tighten the chain with one hand is incredibly useful. If for example you are up in a tree, just think how very useful this feature really is.
Easy to Use – Almost all buyers said this one was easy to use. That was mainly to the nice balance and the light weight of this model.
Features The Buyers Did Not Like
Blade Length – Although the 16″ is adequate for most jobs around the home or yard, some people did comment that they should have purchased the larger 18″ type.
Starting Up – You find this complaint a lot from buyers who purchase a 2-stroke tool. Starting these can be hard as they are slightly temperamental. I have included instructions below of how I started this one up.
They seem to work fine and with a little patience, you soon get the hang of it. I also have a 2-stroke hedge trimmer and mower and each of them starts slightly different. You soon get the knack of it.
Top Tips for Using the Husqvarna 440E
I thought I would include a few top tips left by the people who actually bought and used this model. Hopefully this will improve your own experience, should you decide to buy one.
- Avoid drop starting this one as the engine is high compression
- Always pull out the kill switch (lever) before flicking up into the choke position
- Follow the instructions carefully to make sure of a quick start
- Don’t forget to grease the little hole in the main bar

Husqvarna 440E Starting Up Tips
Some people have left reviews about starting this chainsaw and finding it hard. I didn’t but I did read the instructions very carefully. If you take your time I have found this model starts us really easily. I guess it is what you are used to doing. Here is how I do it.
Assuming it is a cold start, pull and flick out the choke to the choke position. Pump the small transparent bulb 8-10 times to prime the engine. I just look and see when the small bulb is filled up with fuel. I normally then pull the starter cord a couple of times to kick the engine up, and then a third harder pull and it will start.
Let it run for about 30 seconds and then flick the choke lever to the run position and you are good to go.If the engine is warm, I find it starts with 1 or 2 pulls, with the choke in the run position.
The secret of a good chainsaw is to be able to have a powerful enough engine, to drive the power through to the bar. When it gets there, then the size of the blade and bar, needs to be just right. This engine is perfect for a 16″ blade. A bigger 18″ blade would not work on this model.
This saw is also manageable. It feels light compared to similar models. if you plan on doing a lot of cutting, or clearing up, then that is something that you should consider.
440E SUMMARY & VERDICT
Overall this chainsaw from Husqvarna is model number 440 in their “e-Series” of products. It is at the higher end of the market for home use. The truth is that you can’t really go wrong when buying a saw of this quality.
here are plenty of buyers, and the ratings are excellent.
